Thank You
Thank you to everyone who showed up at the public hearing tonight, as well as those who sent in letters expressing your feelings on why we shoUld stay.
We had an incredible turnout. I loved seeing the looks on people’s faces as everyone who kept coming to the mic read “I am here on behalf of CrossFit Somerville.” That shit was awesome. I am continually impressed by the amount of genuine supporters we have. The aldermen tonight definitely heard our united voice.
I will keep everyone in the loop as to what develops. For now, feel proud we made a stand and continue to show your support! Thank you, all of you.

Thanks for sharing and to everyone who went! Working an overnight tonight- sent in a letter and wish I could have been there.
I also want to say a giant THANK YOU to everyone who came out last night and all of you who sent letters and emails. In addition to the amazing crowd of obviously concerned and active citizens in the room, Alderman Fuente had a sizable stack of correspondance that will be entered into the record for consideration as well.
Over a dozen of us got the chance to stand up and speak to the Aldermen, who I think for the first time really got to see how important this issue is to Somerville and Union Square. It was amazing to see 40+ people who were able to literally stand together and make their presence felt when CFSV’s own Josh Gerber asked how many of us were there to speak in support of CrossFit Somerville.
Forty, in person. A dozen more in letters that I know of – and maybe more. Out of 115 members. It was stunning. I can’t thank you enough for making time to do that.
Think about that turnout on a Wednesday night to a town aldermen meeting… and what that says about what we’re building together here. We showed that we are a strong and active community, a force unlike any other in this city; I’m honored to be a part of it, and awed by all the kind words and support you have offered.
I’m inspired by the changes I see in each of you and look forward to the changes we can make together in the neighborood. I’m going to keep pushing forward. Thank you for being here with us.

Of course, after the meeting there was a contingent at the Independent for drinks, and a migration to see Glen play bass in his band. Good times.

Great job Damien. Bye forever.
It isn’t forever. I’m sure I’ll have the itch for a morning workout again in a couple months.
It was astonishing to see how much mis-pronouncing happened after a dozen of us had already spoken and called it crossfit. And then, of course, being referred to as the “empty lot behind dunkin donuts” …
Check out today’s patch! Good job everyone!

Press: 53#, 5 rep max, 1 rep max – went for 58#, but no…. next time.
I love to work out in empty lots.
That comment made me feel empty inside
for some reason, in my mind, “workout” + “empty lot” = Jean-Claude Van Damme. Not necessarily a bad thing.
Also, I’m used to having my name slaughtered…but “Yosh”? really? how hard is “Yosh”?!?
How hard is TIM FU!? lol
THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID! yes. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. sorry baumgartner, but i actually think you’ll appreciate that.
hahahahah!!! Love it!
BAHHHHHHHHHHHH
so HAHD! This is summahville afterall…
Awesome job by everyone to stand up together!
Press: 115#
WOD: 4:14 Rx
275# is no joke. Great job 5:30am!
great job everyone!
press: 65#
wod: 3:15 at 155#. oops, this was too light. 185# is my 5 rep max, so I thought I was still in a good range. 165# would’ve been better suited though.
I’m so glad you guys had an awesome showing last night and wish I could have been there. I did send Tony an impassioned letter though! CFSV adds so much to Union Square and has certainly gotten me back into shopping and eating in the area (where I used to live). Also when the garage doors are open I think we really improve the commute of the bored drivers on Prospect Street waiting for the light!
They should build a parking lot for us as a part of this project. That way we could use the space out front for flipping tires and doing other cool badass shit.
If the membership of CFSV continues to grow at this pace and be even a fraction as awesome as you people are right now, the possibilities are literally boundless.
or a subterranean section of green line tunnel! we could illuminate it with torches and…and…sorry, still on this Van-Damme thing…
Middle aged mutant ninja wodders?
ouch.
;P … well we’re certainly not teenagers 🙁
Great to see such a strong turn out last night! The emotion that everyone brought through their presence was very evident and the speakers eloquently conveyed our message very effectively. Well done everyone!
Also want to say I am say happy to be a part of this community/family!!
Thanks, Schoesh! (I like that nickname.)
I think this is the best comment thread to date.
Press: 155# (PR!)
WOD: 6:22 with 275# and singles.
Press: 100# This is way better than when I maxed out at 75# for 3 a couple weeks back. But shoulder strength is still something I need a lot of work on.
WOD: 3:24 Rx.
I may be the only one who loves strict press this much but I’ll just chalk it up to lack of coordination on doing the dip drive first..
Press = 73# jumped on a 45# bar to try 75# for my 5th round and failed mid way up on the 5th so 75# went down as a 4 rep max
WOD = 4:27 single unders/115#
