Today starts a new training cycle here at CrossFit Somerville.  We’ll be testing a house-made benchmark at the beginning and end of the cycle.  Rather than offer this WOD once at the beginning and once at the end, we’ll be having you do this WOD the first time you come in this week, regardless of what day it is.  There will be new WODs posted every day (as per usual), but you should do today’s WOD instead of the daily workout if you haven’t yet done it.  This way, everyone will have the chance to check their progress this cycle.  We’ll be doing the same thing at the end, so we’ll all be held accountable for what we do in the coming 6 weeks.

STR:

5-5-5-5-5

touch and go

CYCLE BENCHMARK:

Help for local teens in need

One of our members has been working with the guidance department at Somerville High to source aid for over 20 unaccompanied minors who are currently attending SHS.

These students live on their own and work near full time jobs after school to afford rent in local apartments.
They are struggling and in a highly precarious position.

The guidance department  tries to support them with simple items to make their everyday lives a bit simpler.
These items range from new sheets and towels, clothes, toiletries ( razors, shampoos, first aid supplies) to gift cards ( grocery stores, Restaurants, CVS, Target) and T passes.
We will be holding a small collection at CFSV to gather supplies to donate to these students in need.
Next week from 5/18-5/22 there will be a collection box in one of the daily cubbies. If you are able to get any of these items for donation- it would be greatly appreciated!

If you want to get more involved, or you have a larger item to be donated, or you need these items picked up at your house don’t hesitate to contact Erin Baumgartner @ erin.baumgartner@gmail.com or (978)944-2247.

Str: 65# x 5 – certainly nowhere near a PR, but didn’t feel twingey, which is an improvement.

WOD: 17:01 with 10# wb and burpee agro box step ups. I’m making sure I record this one a bunch of places because I’m curious to see if running can possibly get better as the weather gets hotter. It was a nice cool morning for running, and an inspiring 7:30am class.

    push press x5: 165#…185×2 (LEEEEEEEEEEMMMMMMUUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

wod: 12:28, rx. (after squatting, but I don’t think that had too much of an impact)
