Reading the Room

JT Scott | 01/10/2017 | 3

Frequently as coaches we get to read the room and make a choice. Usually it’s small, about scaling or timing or warmups. Sometimes it’s a bigger choice… Today is one of those days.

We’ve got a few challenges for you this fine Wednesday. A tight clock to keep you moving fast. Double unders, a high skill movement that takes coordination and cardio capacity. And more of our heavy 8-rep back squat sets, a theme we’ve been hitting recently. (Be sure to check your previous tally and try to beat it!)

Your coach today will read the room. Maybe we’ll do the back squats to muster up our oomph for fastΒ swings and high skill doubles. Or maybe you’re ready to rip on those, and your coach will use the WOD as a prep for you to settle in for 30 minutes of heavy squatting.

Either way, you’ll have a good couple workouts. What’s your coach’s choice?

WOD:
EMOM 10
5 Pushups
10 KB Swings (24/16)
Max Effort Double Unders
* score is total dubs

STRENGTH:
High Bar Back Squat
8-8-8-8

    WoD: 83 DUs. Over half came in the first 3 minutes, then fatigue set in and time was scarce. Downshifted to 20 KG on the KB swings midway through (thanks Coach!)

    WOD: 35 @ 1pd. Went super light on the KB so I could stand a chance at getting some DUs
