What a great start to the Open season! Between Friday and Saturday, we had about 90 athletes complete the CrossFit Open 18.1 Workout, and it was a lot of fun! Many thanks to Mel for organizing the emails and to Kirstie for heading up the organization for the Saturday throwdown format. We’ll be doing it again next weekend, too – stay tuned for schedule updates and logistics.

One thing I want to follow up on briefly is Mel’s note in the Newsletter about the toilets. This is a tampon. It does not go in the toilets. I will spare you the picture of the mass of tampons that I pulled out of our sewer line on Thursday, but suffice it to say that when a tampon gets flushed into the toilets, it does not go away. It blocks the pipes worse than paper towels, and I end up both covered in poop and hiring a plumber. Please don’t do this.

Now back to happier topics! For the workout today, we’re reaching back into the wayback machine on CrossFit Open WODs, all the way back to 2011. (You can be happy we didn’t choose 2012.1 instead.) This fits our recent programming emphasis on using more loaded barbells in WODs while stretching the time domain, and we will be getting you prepared for it. You can expect in class to spend some time working this deadlift up much heavier and getting our positioning correct and then dropping the weight down for the WOD while keeping that technique dialed in to produce fast, well-formed lifts.
