New Faces, New Cycle
It’s the end of summer – and with September 1 behind us (and most of the moving trucks off the streets) we have a new year here in Somerville! In our neighborhood, 80% of the people rent their homes – and the average tenancy is about 2 years. This actually lines up with what we see here at CFSV – a big chunk of our people move on at the end of each August, and a whole flood of new people arrive after September 1st as our new neighbors settle in and start trying to connect with their new community.
That’s where you come in! Whether it’s a veteran CrossFitter trying to find a new box to call home or someone new to the neighborhood who was just intrigued by our graffiti, new faces in the gym are a great opportunity to reach out, introduce yourself, and make new friends.
All of us had a first day sometime, somewhere. It can make a huge difference to be greeted with a smile and an introduction. Remember your first day – and reach out to welcome these new faces into our awesome neighborhood and community here at CFSV!
Now, this is also the start of a new 6 week programming cycle! Jenna’s been thinking over what she sees in classes and has picked pushing strength as an element to bring into sharper focus for the next 6 weeks. You can expect to see more bench press in the coming weeks and more gymnastic core strength to improve your pushups and dips. Whether you’re looking to get your first real pushup or take your skills to the next level, this programming will definitely help advance your fitness… and of course, there’s still going to be plenty of squatting and lifting and running and other fun to keep improving your General Physical Preparedness.
As part of this cycle, we’ll be testing CINDY today. It’s a classic CrossFit benchmark workout: a simple triplet, repeated as many times as possible in 20 minutes. It’s an easily measurable metric that we’ll be able to look back on in 6 weeks and see how much progress we’ve made!
So write down those scores today, in your books or on the board, and we’ll see how we’ve done 6 weeks from now!
