Creeping Forward

Hey folks! Governor Baker released guidance late last week for gyms to reopen in the state. It’s interesting reading, if you’re into that kind of thing.

Here in Somerville (and in Boston, too) that timeline is delayed – gyms here won’t be open starting Monday, and at the very earliest gyms in Somerville will be allowed to open in limited and modified capacities on July 13. Maybe later, depending on what the Mayor says.

For our part, I’ve been reading those guidelines and requirements and figuring out how our facility can work under them. I spent some time at the box today drawing on the floor with chalk and trying out some arrangements of equipment.

Just as important as the minimum requirements spelled out in the state guidance will be YOUR sense of safety and risk – as well as your coaches’. It doesn’t do any good to set up the box if your coaches aren’t feeling confident enough in our precautions to open safely. After all, all of us have families that we will also be putting at risk when we come back to coach – as do you.

With that said, we’re taking the input from the state and processing it over the next week, and it’s my fervent hope that the survey will go out to members soon to get a sense of whether or not YOU feel safe with a clearly-spelled-out list of procedures… and what extra precautions you would need to feel ready to get back in the gym.

You’ll get it in your inbox when it’s ready. In the meantime, here’s another great workout that you can do at home (and hopefully won’t leave all of our legs as fried as those damn curtsy lunges last week)! 😀

WOD:
3 Rounds
20 Push-ups
30 Single Arm Object Snatches (KB, DB, Detergent Jug, Backpack, etc) 15 each arm
40 Single Arm Object Overhead Squats (same object) 20 each arm

    Added pulls ups to make:

    3 RFT
    10 pull ups
    20 Push-ups
30 Single Arm Object Snatches with 20lb DB
40 Single Arm Object Overhead Squats with 20lb DB

I absolutely dogged this one after enjoying more than one too many this weekend and a few days off from working out… came in at 19:21

    WOD:
    3 RFT
    20 push-ups
30 single arm snatches (started with my new 35lb KB for the 1st round, realized that was a way too ambitious, went to 25lb bag o’ sand for remainder)
40 single arm OH squats, same objects as above

    29:28

16:16 using 20lb dumbbell for snatches. Sadly, this quickly got to be too much for OHS, so I switched to a lighter object (5lbs?). Couldn’t find the right weight to do that many OHS…

Late posting on this but I loved this workout! Felt very reminiscent of pre-COVID times.

25:41 with pushups to a 16” bench and a 35# KB for the snatches and OH squats.
