Bench!

We have a plethora of tools to develop good pushing strength.  When done correctly and with mindful intent, the bench press can be a very effective tool in this box.  Remember that, as will all lifts that we do, it’s not all about the maximum load we can drive through the range of motion we’re looking for, rather it’s how we manipulate the weight through the range that makes the lift a more or less effective stimulus.

Here’s a video of our old friend, Mark Rippetoe taking us through some of the finer points of the “how” and “why” of the bench press.

STR:

Bench!
8-8-8-8-8

WOD:

5 rounds
200m run
50′ overhead walking lunge (25/15)
10 toes to bar

Bench: got up to 135# on third set, but then did some failing on 4th and 5th sets

    WOD: 15:18 Rx
    TTB the limiting factor here.

Bench: 75# seemed about right, those last few reps on the 70# and 75# sets were wobbly. But fun!

WOD: 14:18 with no weight on the lunges and knee ups. But I got my knee to the floor on all of the walking lunges, which was a first. And the running occasionally felt something akin to Good, which… is unusual and awesome. Thanks for the one-on-one 7:30am, Chris!

Very glad to see the classic weight exercise show up in our repertoire. Hope it’s a frequent guest. — Scott

Bench press 95# 8rm. 10rm from whenever ago was 90# so this pleased me

    WOD 11:03 Rx

Benching isn’t Rx unless Sacchetti is in the house. #155

WOD: 8:46 rx. I would have gone faster but Chris Wells’ golden curls distracted me.
