Unexpectedly Heavy

One thing that can catch you off guard in a competition is coming into a workout prepared for the usual loads and finding that the organizers have raised the bar (sometimes literally) in terms of what you’ll be required to achieve. Today’s WOD has 30 Power Cleans interspersed with dubs (another notoriously tricky competition skill). Those 30 Power Cleans might sound a whole lot like the classic Benchmark called “Grace” until you notice that it’s programmed a cool 15% or so heavier than all the times you may have tackled it in the past. That small difference can mean a huge impact on how the WOD feels and how you’ll have to pace your approach to it – so let’s get a bit unexpectedly heavy and see how we can respond to the challenge!

STRENGTH:
On a 10:00 clock:
3 hang power cleans
– Build to a heavy set.
– Rest ~2 mins between sets

2 power cleans (105/155 lb)

4 power cleans
