A new backyard

Brian Hack | 07/30/2012 | 17

This past weekend a few of us got together and created a trench that would dwarf Peter Griffin’s attempt to keep the Black Knight at bay.

If you take a peek outside you’ll notice the aforementioned hole. Throughout the next week or so there will be loads of work going on back there so “Pardon the appearance”. Once completed, we’ll have a nice CrossFitter’s Cave; full of Squat Racks, Grills and lawn chairs. Kinda like our own hang out area. Stay tuned for updated pictures!

i spent some of the allotted hang squat clean time getting mitch the mouse to go back outside. little buddy really just wanted to get a workout in, i guess.

HSC: 105# but probably had a bit more in me. although of the 3 at this weight, one was good, one i landed on my toes and one i landed in a clean and front squatted the rest of the way.

wod: 7:11 at 85#. UNBROKEN PULL UPS and rebounding box jumps. but the pulls ups are way more exciting.

I enjoyed having Mitch in class today – helped nail my form for the power screech. Also enjoyed quiet, small class today. 😉 HSC: 73#,a PR, and I think I will easily go (a bit) heavier with more practice. wod was 9:28? with 53# push presses, and (assisted) pull-ups accounting for at least 75% of the elapsed time. Great job on the unbroken pull-ups, Cal!

HSC: 185# (190×1, bt I felt like I *should* have been able to get this)
WOD: 7:05 Rx, with a solid 20-30 seconds worth of panther walking.

The number 5 got the best of me today, but I will be back tomorrow….

great 6:30am! and july box-jump goals are squelched accordingly!!!

HSC: 85# PR. i fought for it in the last 3 rounds and finally got it.
WOD: 9:00 with 24″ (!) box jumps, 65# push press (solid; have confidence to inch closer to Rx next time), green-band pullups (tough; have faith these will get easier one day). high five to all sweaty comrades.

ALSO, i was mentioning this to some people, but here is a welcoming committee (think: LGBT flash mob parrrrrty) crossfit takeover in a boston TBD nightclub next friday aug 10. (nice pre-cursor before weekend of hungry tiger night market and beantown throwdown!) i have no idea what might be happening, but i believe they are guaranteeing sweaty sexiness everywhere.

  5. HSC – 155# I really struggle with the hang versus the full clean. I think I need to focus on getting more organized through the core on these. Slightly frustrating, but in context I’m ok with this.

WOD – 5:08 rx. Ben, the panther walk was key here. From what I hear, active recovery is more effective than passive, meaning it’s better to be moving while taking those few breaths before the next exercise than to be standing there. Also, did a panther jog and leap over a box to get to the last round of pullups. No reason to delay that…

Great job 12PM! It was fantastic to see so many people there!

nice time! hell yeah, I had my box and barbell on the opposite corner of the box from where I was doing pullups, really the ideal panther walk set up. I couldn’t believe how supple I felt by the end of this WOD!

  6. cmliu says:

    wait… so panther == leopard?

    • Ben S says:

yes, actually. the leopard (panthera pardus) is in genus panthera. The approach, however, is little less KStar and little more LL Cool J…

      • KP says:

Quote of the week: “The approach…is a little less KStarr and a little more LL Cool J.”

HSC: 115#. Had a few unexpected variants, including the one-armed receive and the infamous backward duck wall squat clean.

WOD: 5:40 @ 95#. I will move up to 105# the next time push press appears in a WOD.

    Good work, 6 pm!

  8. Alicia says:

    HSC: 70#
    WOD: 10:18 @ 75# w/20″ box & blue and red band pull-ups
I feel like I’ve been stuck at 65# on presses for a while so I decided to go up and see what happened – predictably the extra 10 pounds felt really heavy! But doable…

  9. Jaime Bailey says:

    HSC: 70#
    WOD: 9:12 @ 65#, 20 inch box, and B+R bandzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  10. damien says:

    HSC: 155#

WOD: 6:35 Rx. 135# push press is still a bit much for me. Was able to rebound the box jumps pretty well and did the pull-ups unbroken.

  11. Abi says:

Hang cleans 95# and wod 939 65# blue band (very broken up!) and 24″ box.
