Squatting and Snatching but not in the same Movement
From Coach Mandy Brown
“My Two Cents”
I’ve remained fairly quiet on the issue at hand regarding the threat of losing CrossFit Somerville and the issue at hand. I want to make it clear that it is not because I do not care. On the contrary, I am writing this to let you all know how much the Somerville community means to me. I am one of the luckiest people in the world. I wake up (albeit at 4:30am) and get to go to a job that I absolutely love. Coaching can instantly turn a bad day into a great one and put a smile on my face no matter what. People sometimes ask me which gym (CrossFit Fenway or CrossFit Somerville) I like better and though I’m not a mother I always feel like someone is asking me to pick my favorite child. Really there is no clear winner (unlike when my parents get asked the same question), I love both gyms for different reasons. Fenway is my home and where I have achieved so many PRs but Somerville is where I have grown up as a coach. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing an athlete PR or seeing something click for the first time and I’ve been fortunate enough to share many of those moments with you all. So when it comes down to it I will do everything I can to fight to keep our gym and our community alive. If necessary I will use ropes and bands to attach myself to the building. And maybe a set of rings.
Strength
Front squat 7×2
WOD
4 rounds
15 Hang Power Snatches (95/65)
200m run
Nice post Yosh! I can help with the ropes and bands. Actually, everybody could be literally attached to the building!
CFSV is a second home for me.
Well said, Coach!
Sorry guys as I do feel the same I can’t take credit for this! It’s from our own Mandy!
I started to wonder when I got to the part about not being a “mother”…
Yosh is a bad mother…
…Shut yo mouth!
But I’m talkin’ about Yosh
Yeah Mandy! She helped me get over my ridiculous fear of box jumps, which was one of my monthly goals over the Summer. She’s a great coach and has personally helped me grow into a better athlete. Hope to see you around night classes more often!
I remember pre-box jump Kelly!!
stuck to the ground ; )
MANDY RULES! I KNEW HER BEFORE SHE WAS FAMOUS.
FS: 185#
WOD: 8:14 @75#
Since 3 of the 4 rounds were unbroken, I think I should have done this at 85#. Good workout nonetheless. Great job 5:30am!
AMRAP AMAZING ANECDOTES ABOUT AMANDA
FS: 135#…maybe if it didn’t take me so long to do everything i would’ve had time to do my 7th set. 🙂
wod: 9:59 at 53#. i broke it up from the start into sets of 5 and my first round was way too slow. these started to feel a lot better as the wod went on.
oh and i got my september goal today! 10 unbroken ring dips.
Hell yeah!
so beast
Great note from Mandy, it’s only fitting we are doing her least favorite move for strength today 😉 And I totally plan to Occupy CFSV someday if they ever try to acquire and demolish it.
FS: 140#. Working on form: it was good.
WOD: 9:26 (?) at 75#. Once I got tired, my snatch form got better because I partial-squatted to get under the bar. Funny how that works.
FS: 170#, started to get my knee wiggle at 165# so I didn’t want to push it much more and instead, focus on pushing that knee out.
WOD: 10:21@75# My back is extremely tight this morning. Looking forward to some QT with the foam roller later.
