Open Season is upon us!

Brian Hack | 01/29/2013 | 22

Well, it’s finally here. Registration for the 2013 CrossFit Open starts today! With competition beginning March 6th. This is a worldwide competition that aims to find the fittest man and woman on earth!

REgister here!

With that being said, I honestly feel as if most people who participate are looking just for the challenge. There is no pressure to feel compelled to compete  other than the pressure we impose on ourselves. Read the following from a buddy of mine who trains with me on Team CT Weightlifting:

Opens registration starts on the 30th. If you are even somewhat considering doing it, you should. As I have mentioned multiple times before, in a competition setting you are almost guaranteed to PR in some way or another. For that reason alone it would be worth it. In addition, there is the comradarie aspect that is different from just doing a random workout in the gym. My favorite moment from last years opens was when hatch and Faber were doing the snatch ladder on a sunday. With only a few minutes left Hatch was painfully trying to get as many snatches at 165 as possible. However he looks up and sees Faber fail yet again at that weight. He stops long enough to say “come on buddy, you can do it” between reps. Faber ended up hitting that weight for I think 5 reps, beating his 3 from earlier that week. To me, thats what its all about.

Sign up. No excuses.

There is something to be said about doing the same thing as another person side by side. I remember how much fun people were having last year when we pretty much held all the workouts on Saturday mornings here at CFSV. Open Season is FUN. Whether you want to root for someone or feel what it’s like to be in a competition setting, I highly suggest signing up! I will also leave you with this:

It may seem or even feel uncomfortable to put yourself out there like that, where other people are watching you. But the more you harness that feeling of discomfort, the more you learn about yourself. Competition isn’t necessarily about winning. It’s about seeing how far we are willing to push ourselves for the greatest amount of effort we can give.

Much love to the morning crew. So much heart displayed today!

but no posts. i want to read more about it from others!

It helps when we are being sung to by KP’s amazing voice.

Hang Power Cleans: 75# (I said 65# this morn, but I can’t do math after being WODed out!) Definitely first time doing this, need to work on form esp hips & elbows out.

WOD: 9:40 (65# and green & red band) Proud done all squats without dropping the bar. Shoulders were burning the last three rounds in pull ups.

    Ok Cal, here’s your post:

Hang Cleans: 120# with some questionable form.

WOD: 8:40rx. I think that time is right. Anyhow, 12 reps=OUCH. My legs were shaking and cramping after the 3rd round. I’ve never thought of pull-ups as a “good opportunity to get off my legs”, but that’s what was running through my mind this morning. Glad to do all 75# though.

Thanks for the love KP. Nice work today all!

    Hang Power Clean: 185# PR
These felt good today. Also, I’m glad my elbow pain (tendonitis?) was non-existent. I just purchased some voodoo floss bands so hopefully I’ll be able to k-starr the shit out of my nagging injuries.

    WOD: 7:24 Rx
Surprisingly my squats went unbroken til round 5. Pullups were all unbroken. Just over a month til the OPEN!! 😀

HPC: #155 jumped to #185 but only could get 1 up. 🙁

    WOD: 6:27 @ #75 with green ban.

    Daniel, you a Machine!

  5. cmliu says:

hang power clean: 90# – thanks KP for form tips!

WOD: 8:24 @ 75# and green band (experimenting with trying not to kip & do straight-hang PUs)

  6. Rich says:

HPC – 145; Working on form, which is BAD.

WOD: 9:02 Rx – Apparently I’m doing CTB pull-ups where regular pull-ups would suffice. Need to step that back a notch.

    HPC: 175# PR

WOD: 7:42 Rx, quads were toast at the end of that. Was able to do also but the 5th round unbroken, which I split up 8 and 4. Towards the end, even jumping up to the pull-up bar was a process.

    WOD 2:
    EMOM 6
    3 push press @135#

Started out as 5 reps, but could not keep that pace after the second round.

  8. Mad Mike says:

HPC: 195# (PR), they felt really good, should’ve went heavier
WOD: 10:54 with 115# and blue band. The FS from yesterday were felt today.

  9. Lydia says:

KP was the Inspiration for all that heart this morning, Muppeting, cajoling, and sometimes bullying us all into pushing ourselves to glorious new heights.

HPC: 65#, WOD: 12:00 with 50# and banded pullups. My first pullups instead of ring rows during a WOD! Very exciting, and many thanks to KP and all the others that helped make it happen! They Looked ridiculous, but just being able to be up there working on them felt great.

7:30 Beastmasters rocked it! Great push, everybody!

  10. Renee says:

HPC = 85# and then 90# for 2. It’s normal to HPC less than a clean from the floor, right?

    WOD = 6:56 @ 75#, blue band

Unbroken squats were fine but I did break up the pull ups by the 3rd. Maralene said no kipping if you were using bands. Honey, if I could kip I wouldn’t be using that shit. The “not being able to kip” thing is frustrating me more and more each day. Been practicing up a whole new layer of callous onto my palms this week…

  11. Olivia says:

I’m loving the community on the blog today guys! Can we do this every day??

  12. Brian says:

HPC: 165# stayed at this weight for top 2 rounds to try to iron out some muted hip issues.
    WOD: 5:51 Rx
