Skills Session: KIPPING (Take Deux)
The CrossFit Games Open season is almost here! Registration happens at THIS LINK. It’s fun. Aside from the “competition” aspect, it’s a series of 5 WODs over 5 weeks where we can gather together en masse to cheer each other through… and at the end you can see how your score compares to athletes around the world. It’s kinda like “Hands Across America”, only with chalk and sweat.
To prepare for the season, we’re going to start a series of Skills Sessions: an hour to get together outside of class and work on specific skills that are likely to come up in the series of Open Workouts. This is your chance to get more coaching and work on your goats!
As Brian says: “Come learn how to be more efficient with your pullups by using the power generated by your entire body. (And maybe even improve your WOD times!) If you are hesitant about signing up for the Crossfit Open because you don’t have unassisted pullups, this might help you overcome that final hurdle to competing in the largest fitness competition in the world!”
This Saturday, Nick and Brian have worked up an excellent syllabus to review KIPPING for pullups. We’ll be hosting this session at 9am on Saturday morning – before the regular Saturday WOD so you’ll be nice and fresh when reviewing technique. No cap on class size, and it doesn’t count against your class count this week, so just show up and learn some stuff!
Standard Saturday WOD afterwards.
Thank you so much Nick and Brian!! Much appreciated session this morning 🙂
Yeah, thanks guys! It was obvious that you put a lot of planning into that, and we appreciate it. I’m sure I’ll have dreams about kipping tonight.
Nick and Brian, Seriously, what a fantastic session. Thank you guys for planning this out so well and taking the time to help us hone this skill. It looks so simple when you see someone do it but there are a lot of minute details and small moving parts. I personally got a lot out of today and felt it made a huge difference to walk through the progressions. I would look forward to any future sessions like this.
Nick and Brian, you guys are awesome! Thanks a ton for the skills session. I learned a lot from it and will definitely apply these progressions into my daily warm ups. You guys explained the movements clearly and thoroughly. AWESOME COACHES!
I’m glad you guys found the session useful, and I hope you all learned a few things to apply to learning kipping pullups. I am making up a sheet of the drill progressions that we went through on Saturday and will post it next to the white board so that you have a reference when practicing. And please ask if you have any questions as you’re going through them as well.
I think our next skill session will be this Saturday and will cover Double Unders (and maybe a quick refresher of pullup skills as well). Check the blog for posts about that!
Sweet! It’s like you read my mind. I’ll bring my new short person speed rope.
