I’m at the cape but really want to do the wod today. CTB pull-ups and high box jumps? Sounds right up my alley! I may try to get my butt back home in time for the 7pm. Am I crazy?
A couple of questions about the open. I’ve been thinking about registering, even as just a reason to get one more workout in a week. But I’m still a newbie – how does this work? From what I’ve gathered, there will be a Saturday session specifically for the open wods? What happens if you’re not able to make a session?
I highly recommend registering for the open! Last year all of us who did the Open were essentially newbies, and the Open was a great venue to learn some new skills and hit some PRs!
In 2012, Crossfits Fenway and Somerville had combined group Open workouts on Saturdays, which I think will also be true this year. This was a great way to get a lot of coaching, see some other athletes in action, and get amped up in front of a big crowd. However, you can do the Open workouts whenever you want from the time they are posted (Wednesday evenings) until scores are due (Sunday evenings), as long as someone is around to judge you (or you video yourself and submit that). Last year the coaches were really accommodating to getting your workout in if you couldn’t make the Saturday group session.
I second what Brian is saying. definitely do it! It’s a fantastic experience, and a lot more fun than scary once you get into it. Sure, you might get some butterflies in your stomach before some of the workouts, but once you get going it’s like any other workout, only with the energy and excitement turned up to 11. Believe me, there’s no way you’ll regret having done it, but you may very well regret NOT having done it.
Push Press: 195# PR
I noticed that when I control the descent (dip part) instead of just dropping, and explode using my legs and hips, the push presses feel easier. Take a deep breath, hold, tense the core, and GO!
WOD: 12 rds + 18 Rx
My C2B pullups are gradually improving. The skills session from Saturday really helped. I need to work on the “push away” movement at the top.
Hatch Wk 12/Day 1
WOD: 12+1 Rx
Chest to bar got tough REAL quick. Great job by the 5:30 am. Awesome to see so many people in the early morn.
