As 13.5 goes in the books, so does the 2013 CrossFit Games Open. I can’t tell you how proud I am of everyone who competed and worked through the reps, emotions and triumphs of each workout. This was a great year with heavy emphasis placed on working outside your comfort zone. As close as people were prior to the Open, I think what’s best is that everyone related a little closer and got to know one another a little better. Thus ensuring the longevity of friendship and comradery. This is what it’s truly about, coming together as like minded individuals who share a common passion for progress and repetition. I can’t speak else everyone else, but, it was pretty freaking cool to see everyone become closer. Thank you, all of you, for sharing in the experience.

Strength

WOD

5-4-3-2-1-2-3-4-5 reps of:

Power Cleans (155/105)

Box Jumps (30/24)

L Pull-ups

Definitely agree with Yosh, I totally <3 our community! Looking forward to see us all progress better and bonds getting stronger!

HBBS: 145# (attempted 155# twice, got 2 reps first time and only one rep next)

    WOD: 8:43 (75#, 20", green band)

Tough warmup indeed! 5:30a crew is one tough group, enjoyed working out with you guys!

Strength: 165# (PR by 20#! The Open made me stronger…). Squatting is still a battle between Olivia and her knees.

Wod: 9:26 with 105#, 30″ box and dead hang pull ups. L-pull ups happened about 3 times… and then quickly went away!

I, too, really enjoyed the Open and getting to know everybody! Now, let’s just make sure that there are more late nights at Phoenix Landing and plenty of brunches and roof deck gatherings this spring! 🙂

Back Squat: 245# from the high bar. This was a new 3RM by 10#, and WAAAYYY prettier than my old 3RM max. Also, only 10# less than my 1RM. Backing off the weight and working on form and mobility is paying off.

WOD: 13:32 Everything was RX except the pull-ups were straight-legged, not L. I lost my form on the cleans in the middle rounds and started reverse-curling, but it was mostly the pull-ups that slowed me down. Also, caught a couple cleans right in the titanium plate in my collar bone. That didn’t feel great.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Pull-ups + Power Cleans = time to tend to your callouses. Get on it!

  4. Fran's Cough says:

    HBBS: 265#

WOD: 8:51 (DL @ 255# sub for PC, and L-pullups on rings)

  5. Lydia says:

LBBS: 120#, and they were Ugly. But there were a bunch of other folks hitting PRs – go 7:30!

WOD: 12:34 with 55#, two green boxes, and 2 blue and 1 green band. Mostly I was glad to not be too terrified of two green boxes again.

I agree – the Open was great for challenging and supporting ourselves – and fostering connections with everyone else. There’s a lot of inspiration to be found in our classmates!

  6. bensacc says:

    low bar: 265#
wod: 11:20 rx. power cleans were fast, box jumps ok, l-pullups went to singles real quick (after 1st round).

  7. damien says:

LBBS: 265#, normally do high bar but figured I’d mix it up

    WOD: 7:50 w/ bent knee pull-ups

  8. Mad mike says:

    280 across all 5
    1115 with blue band

  9. Rich says:

HBBS: 240 across all five sets
11:04 with one round of L-sits and the rest tucked. Amazing how much a small modification can change how a movement feels.

  10. Renee says:

HBBS jumped from 155 to 170# but I only got 1 rep. Oh well. I debated doing 165# but that’s already my 3RM so I wanted to try for more.

WOD Fran red band 8:10 … Last time I did Fran I used a red band and it took me over 12 min. *pats own back*

  11. Trish says:

    HBBS – 175# PR woohoo!!!

I did Fran for the 40 day No Bread Challenge tonight, used 65# for the thrusters and massive scale for the pullups. Let’s see how I do after 40 days!

  12. Niki Brown says:

HBBS: 165# – new 3 rep max! (i think i could do much more given enough time to lift!)

WOD: 11: something. 115# for the cleans, 30in box jumps, red band for the pull-ups. Loved this workout!
