for me this turned into a case study in having a positive mental attitude. I’ve been struggling with metcons lately and by round three my mind was screaming at me to stop…”tell JT you’re dizzy, whatever, make something up. just end this”, and I had to scream back “we are finishing this NOW.” In that moment, I actually started feeling better, and felt stronger in the end than in the beginning. lesson learned…or re-learned.

Meanwhile, Brian is bending the bar with his fucking MIND!

WoD: RX 14:06 Man this one was a leg killah. Sorry JT for bleeding all over the floor! Still healing from that Burpee Mile on sunday 🙁

Bro Session this morning, Good job AMOS!

      Thanks, dude. You too.

BP: 135# as well. These are kind of fun.

WOD: 13:43? 12:43? I forget. Only did 85#, but that ended up feeling pretty good. This was my first WOD in a while, since I’ve been doing extra strength work. Fun!

    oh hello, legs.

bench press: 5 reps at 100#. (best paired with the ‘breast massage’ book i spied in the CFSV bookshelf…? ha, what’s the story there?)

WOD: 13:45 @ 65#, 20″. intense. i feel like this is a 2-line computer program with extensive functions snuck in ’em!

Funny. When I saw the WOD I thought, “Gee, I bet Olivia is gonna love this one. She <3 box jumps and burpees!"

      • Olivia says:

Aw, thanks for thinking of me Dan. 🙂

I think I like bar complexes too. Anything with cleans & push presses is okay by me. And no squats = Woo-hoo!

Nice to see that I haven’t lost too much strength in the bench press.

    WOD: 12:19 Rx
Good race with Marcos as we kept alternating leads. I seemed to have the advantage on the Curtis Ps whereas Marcos made up time on the burpee box jumps. Ultimately, it came down to the last set of burpee box jumps. I went turbo on the first 5 and clearly took the lead, but then my tank emptied and Marcos gradually gained ground. Video footage replay showed that Marcos’ feet landed on the box 1/100th of a second before mine. The crowd erupts and the box is littered with confetti. The end.

    Good work!

Oh and by the way, this WOD sucked!

    • Danielito Arcenio says:

      Marcos wore a 20# weight vest too…

    • Olivia says:

Marcos would tell you that it was not a race. Each and every person is striving to be the best that they can be in the moment, and if you achieved that goal and didn’t give up, you are a winner. 🙂

I love you Marcos! And I love when you wear that vest and I can almost keep up with you!

      • Marcos says:

Thanks Olivia! You are very sweet. And I wouldn’t use better words to describe how I frame the workouts.

Yes, they are not a race in which one tries to finish a RX wod before others. There is no fulfillment by doing this. I believe workouts are a way (probably the best one) to master our self-awareness, control our mind and body and eliminate weaknesses at the same time.

To do this you have to give everything you have. I always rejoice seeing myself or someone really struggling to finish a workout. It does not necessarily happen when you are the first to finish it. I understand the effect of chasing each other, it is a kind of incentive. But times on the white board don’t reflect the level of engagement. Each one knows how much we give in a workout.

Well, as I am coming back to Brazil very soon (June 10th), I would like to mention a quote that I usually repeat to myself before the workouts:

“When a man is beaten, tormented and defeated… He is ready to learn something”(Emerson)

Today, I wore the vest again and used the 24″ box not for vanity, but to be beaten, tormented and, in a way, defeated…. and I learned a lot, once more.

I am going to miss you all of you. But….LET’S GO!!!!

Enjoying my afternoon coffee trying to get over sluggish blah feeling … reading your posts especially Ben and Dan’s – got me all psyched/inspired to tough out my crossfit session with my trainer tonight. Good work all!

13:26 Rx, and to think I considered doing 135#…

    • Olivia says:

Damien, I’m with you. I totally considered upping the RX weight here, but I’m glad I didn’t! It was the right weight for the workout…
