Sticking With It
Sometimes when you get into something, it’s important to stick with it and see it through. You know it’s possible; the only question is how long it will take you to see a thing through to the other side. Sometimes, the only way out is through. We’ve all been in workouts like that. Most of us have been through life struggles like that.
In an AMRAP, as in most of the non-crisis times of our lives, the choice is more subtle. The timer will run out regardless of how hard you push… the question is just how much you are going to do with the time that’s allotted? Are you going to make the choice to get the most out of it?
Today is kind of like that. We’re going for heavy doubles on our strict press. Using lots of core engagement we’re going to test our shoulders to see how much weight we can get overhead.
Once we’ve set that bar, we’ll stick with it for the WOD – but in the WOD you’ll get to use whatever hip drive you need to get that thing overhead. Push press, push jerk, split jerk… just keep the bar moving and end each rep locked out fully overhead and standing fully upright.
Make the choice to move fast, to stick with that bar, and to proceed through your rounds and reps knowing these two things:
- you will get through this, and
- it will end.
The real question is how we comport ourselves between the start and the finish. The real challenge is making every rep both as fast and as perfect in form as we can. The real dignity is in knowing that we did our absolute best today in those 16 minutes.
