Applying New Skills

Kirstie Young | 04/10/2017 | 3

We are starting a new strength cycle this week. And With the weather changing it almost feels like spring and that means running! This last six weeks we’ve done a ton of single leg work, mostly through the split squat. Split squats are a great tool to help hone the skills like running, jumping, landing etc.

These split squats may seem strange and awkward at first but everyone I worked with made some awesome progress. So while the elements of this cycle feel more familiar, use the new found body awareness you’ve practiced to make your lifts stronger, and workouts faster.

Strength:
Strict press
5-5-5
*Superset with 3 renegade rows per arm

WOD:
4 Rounds
40 air squats
10 Power snatch (95/65)

Learned a lot in that last workout with the hang power snatches and it really paid off here.

The one downside was that I was a little spooked by doing more reps at the same weight because my grip really started to fall apart in the previous snatch-y workout. Turns out that grip holds out a lot better when the weight goes all the way to the floor. Not doing pull-ups probably helps, too.
