Let’s hear it
We’ve been open for just over 2 months now, and in my opinion, have established an awesome community of wellness. Let’s hear some stories about how CrossFit has impacted your life so far. Post to comments!
Strength: Back Squat 5-5-3-3-1-1-1
(You are looking for a new 1 Rep Max)
WOD:
3 Rounds
30 Double Unders
15 Power Snatches (#75/45#)
REMINDER: This Saturday, the 21st, from 7:30pm- 9:30pm, our friends from CrossFit Fenway will be hosting a party at Sweet Carolines to celebrate their 2 year anniversary. I encourage everyone to come and share in the festivities, plus you’ll be able to meet individuals from our extended family!
I don’t really think I’m ready to share the words of my story yet (it’s like trying to sample a cupcake that is still in the oven…). But, I can share this (of which I try not to dwell and keep reminding myself that even the January row will soon be a historical chapter…):

You are my frickin hero, Lynn. Keep taking pictures. I am SUPER EXCITED to help you write new chapters.
WOW! That’s awesome Lynn! I like the photo ‘journal’ – great way to see your progress!
Awesome, Lynn!
I was going to post pics, but you can’t see my new muscles through the back hair.
teehee 🙂
Lynn,
What an awesome transformation you are making! It is a pleasure to be alongside you each week. I am wicked proud of how far you have come, keep up the great work!
I am not sure I have a dramatic story to share YET but I hope it turns into one.
First thing, I talk about CrossFit ALL the time (to co-workers, friends, parents, boyfriend, strangers). Furthermore, I have lost 12 pounds, have dropped a pant size and it seems very effortless as CrossFit is FUN! I don’t see any new muscles yet but I feel stronger. My job teaching special needs students gets pretty physical and I don’t find myself aching at the end of the day. Yah!
I think the most important thing that has happened is that I am challenging myself, which I was NOT doing while jogging on the treadmill reading US Weekly at my old “gym.” In turn, all these physical challenges have made me focus on what I am putting IN my body. I was eating shit! So many changes in such a short time!!
It has been 6 weeks for me (though missed a week due to holiday travel). No visible physical changes yet, but I also talk about Crossfit all the time, and love when I overcome the small fears – like jumping on a high box or lifting something too heavy. In the past I have joined a gym, and within a month, I would be trying to dig deep to maintain motivation to go. Eventually I would quit the gym, eventually I would join the gym (or a different gym) again because I didn’t like giving up on fitness. I don’t have to “dig deep” to try to get to Crossfit – I am not a morning person, and yet I am managing to get up at 5 am 2-3 times per week to fit in a workout I never would have been able to “find time for” at Healthworks/ Fitcorp/ BSC (all other gyms where I have been a member). So this is resonating with me big time and I can’t wait to start to see more results, both in my body composition and in what I can do in the gym.
I was talking to a friend last week about CrossFit and mentioned that after a particularly frustrating session of squats I felt like I wanted to go home and practice…who practices exercising?! Said friend kind of laughed but it made me realize that with CrossFit I’m actually motivated to succeed much more so than I was at my old gym – it’s really exciting to see that I CAN lift weight that I would have never have imagined before or that I can jump on boxes! I felt like I was getting stronger after only 2 workouts, definitely am more toned and have probably lost a few pounds though I don’t own a scale to be able to verify that! Yup, I’m definitely a fan!
I love you people so much. You’re all incredible and wonderful and so special, and I am thrilled to be a small part of your journeys.
These stories you tell are especially strong motivation for me to keep pushing myself to be as helpful as possible along your way. Thank you for sharing.
I encourage you to keep talking about CrossFit, everywhere!! If it wasn’t for my fraternity brother blogging his WOD every day on Facebook for months, I would have never tried CrossFit, and CFSV would have never happened. You may never realize how many lives you’ll eventually change by just sharing your story of motivation, inspiration, and excitement.
it’s been really an amazing few weeks so far at somerville for me. I haven’t been part of a community with so many new crossfitters yet, and it’s been really, REALLY amazing to see the progress people have made so far. It’s great that you guys have kept track of your progress so far too, via pictures or through your WOD books or any other way you guys enjoy noting things because it’s really enjoyable to look back. i’ve been crossfitting for almost a year and a half now, and i have my first wod book on the shelf at somerville and will occasionally look back at it, and it’s pretty crazy how far i’ve come. my sister is the one who roped me into this, and i called her crazy for MONTHS before she convinced me to come with her, and i never looked back (although after i finished my first wod i wanted to disassociate any family ties from her). i’ve gotten the amazing opportunity to take my crossfit journey with my boyfriend james (or shorty, if anyone stalks the fenway site) and it’s been cool to see how both of our lives have transformed. in general, i’m also not sure where i’d be without his support, but he’s kept me grounded through the crossfit journey, reminding me if i need to work harder at something or calming me through frustrations. it’s also great to have both a crossfitting sister and boyfriend, so i always have people to talk to about it!! my first few months were frustrating at times and were really inconsistent as my body adjusted to these new exercises, feats of strength, and new world of conditioning. so the advice i can give looking back at the beginning of my journey is never give up and keep pushing through it. everyone wants to see progress immediately, but it doesn’t always work that way, and crossfit can be pretty frustrating at times but if you push through it, you’ll be sure to break through frustration!
HBBS – 245# (New PR by 20#); failed spectacularly at 265#
WOD – 7:20 Rx. Double unders were especially hard with smoked forearms from the snatches.
I joined the box about a month after it opened, but it has been really fun watching it grow from week to week in the past month +. It’s great to have found a community of people who know that working out doesn’t have to be a boring, solitary event. I look forward to coming in to work out with all of you each and every time.

Moved back to Somerville in November from CA where I’d been doing crossfit for about a year and a half. I injured my back with the marines about 5 years ago and i thank crossfit for getting me back into shape again. I couldn’t believe my luck when I saw this box open a ten minute jog from my new place.
Love the energy from all those new to crossfit. I remember being there too, not sure what I got myself into, but it becomes a part of your life like no other workout does. It’s part of the culture to cheer each other on, help with setup and cleanup, and talk a little trash when it’s deserved. You just don’t get this anywhere else.
Love the style of instruction and the personal attention. Many boxes out there are packed and you simply don’t get the focus on form that is so important. Hats off to JT and Yosh for taking the risk of starting a new venture like this and putting together a great experience everyday.
Looking forward to a great 2012 with everyone!
3,2,1…
hey gang,
I overstretched a few nerves — brachial plexus, both arms 🙁 doing those overhead barbell squats a few weeks ago, so I’m resting up. Can’t wait to get back at it!
