Squatting with “punch”

One of our focuses this cycle is being “punchy” with our lifts.  This idea will be a little more obvious for the lifts that are naturally punchy, like a jerk or a snatch.  This is an idea, however, that can also apply to our “slow” lifts like deadlifts and squats.
Today’s front squat doubles are a great opportunity to approach this lift with “punch”.  As per usually, it will require us setting the stage with our warm up lifts – even with the empty bar, stand up like you mean it, like it weights much more than it does.  Approaching the front squat as such will not only make heavier weights seem lighter, but will add to the overall athleticism in the way we move.  So let’s get tight under that bar and punch some front squats in the face!  (**Disclaimer – I’m just kidding.  We do not condone violence here at CrossFit Somerville towards front squats or any other lift.  Do, however, be aggressive.)

Book Donations

Abigail Russo is collecting donations of books and magazines for the Boston Medical Center.  We have reserved a cubby at CrossFit Somerville with a sign to drop any donations.  See below for details from Abigail:

The Boston Medical Center (the hospital associated with my workplace, the BU School of Medicine) is constantly seeking donations of books and magazines for its waiting rooms. If you want to get rid of books you don’t need (non-academic, please – nobody wants to read your program evaluation textbook) or relatively recent magazines (less than four months old), feel free to give them to me to pass along! There’s an 85% chance that I’ll donate them and not keep them for myself.
