Hey Team!

Coach Mel here! Just wanted to update y’all on a few things.

First! Nick is away this weekend, so Kirstie and Mel will be running the Saturday class WOD! Who’s excited?!?!

Tomorrow we will be doing a work out to send off one of our members Drew Shaver! The Wod will include some of his favorite movements! Drew has been a member with us for about 2 years and you’ve probably seen him around open gym likely doing a terrible wod or working on some gymnastics skills! Drew will be moving to California next week! If you see him ask him what he’ll be up to out there! Here is a little bit about Drew –

Favorite CrossFit work out: “Glen”

What brought you to CrossFit: The stress of working in Iraq and later pursuing a PhD pushed me to re-engage with exercise after years of relative inactivity. I discovered CrossFit during the final months of summer in DC in 2016 and moved to Somerville shortly afterward. I was eager to find a new box to maintain the momentum, and after my first drop-in workout with JT and a quick tour of the chicken coop and community garden, I was sold on CFSV. Nick’s introduction to gymnastics, Kirstie and Nick’s personal attention to form and recovery, and Mel’s dynamic, motivating energy have made the experience all the more fulfilling.

How do you feel now? Pretty damn awesome. CFSV has left me with a sense of satisfaction with what I have achieved so far and a strong sense of optimism for what my continued CrossFit (and more general athletic) progression has in store.

Favorite thing that CrossFit has given you: To name just one thing fails to do justice to what CrossFit and CFSV have given me. Community. A renewed sense of energy and passion – both in the box and beyond. A newfound appreciation of the human body. Three inches off my waist size and ten bpm off my resting heart rate. A hell of a lot of post-workout pain, and a huge appreciation for lacrosse balls and sports massages. Free bananas and the occasional locally grown vegetable. A tremendous amount of incredible coaching. And finally many awesome workout memories — from 12 days of FITMAS to the many impromptu Sunday open gym WODs to The Open workouts.

 

 

 

Stay with me team, I have one more announcement! I (Mel) Will be away for the next 3 weeks. I am taking some time off to spend with my family and do some work on the family cabin in the upper peninsula of Michigan! I will be back Sept 10th! I miss you all already!
