Progress
The past several classes I’ve heard so many of you share awesome success stories with your training and how that has translated towards what you do outside the walls of CFSV. So I thought I’d open up the comments section again for anyone who would like to share with the community what they have been experiencing. It’s been about 3 and a half months since we’ve opened and you guys are helping build an awesome environment which everyone enjoys being a part of. Here’s to you!
Skill: Muscle Ups
WOD:
3 rounds
50 air Squats
10 hang power cleans(115/75)
7 ring dips

It should be clear to everyone that Glen(n) is the goddam MAN.
SO AWESOME.
true story! <3
It should be clear to everyone that Glen(n) is the goddam MAN.
SO AWESOME.
In the past week or so I have achieved full range of motion in my left hamstring, a task which has, for the past ten months, seemed impossible. The magic and hard work of CFSV has made me (mostly) fully human again, so thank you to all, immensely, and with great vim.
I have been doing CrossFit for over 2 years now, but have never been a rockstar at it, or a speed demon, and have spent A LOT of time finishing last in WODs, getting lapped, etc. But no matter who you are, there is progress to be made – which is so empowering and at times downright magical.
Push press
– March 2010: 66# x 1
– January 2012: 97# x 3
Deadlift
– April 2010: 165# x 1
– February 2012: 225# x 5
Front squat
– June 2010: 110# x 1
– February 2012: 140# x 3
And now it’s time for me to make some legit progress with bodyweight movements, box jumps, & double unders…
that is awesome progress!!! you are so very strong and it’s great to see how far you’ve come!
A friend told me a few weeks ago that he thought I had more swagger. And that’s what it’s all about.
nice!
Will and I were talking about how good you are looking the other night. I think it’s wicked fun to watch ALL my new friends get a little bit sexier every time I see them. 🙂
It’s like we’ve all stumbled upon a badass secret that we’re keeping together. And, when I feel like I’m maybe stagnating, at least I can live vicariously through everyone else!
didn’t get muscle ups today afterall (despite acting all tough about it in the mirror this morning), but did learn a few great assistance exercises to help get me there…thanks, JT!.
wod: 6:14rx. thought about scaling up the hpcs a bit but shoulder was feeling very tweaked after working on muscle ups
no muscle ups for me either, but maybe i should’ve acted tough in the mirrors. i’ll try that next time. the band contraption thing was interesting, glad to have something else to add to my list of things to work on!!
wod: 6:34 Rx. My hpcs felt really, really good today, especially the first 5 in each set. it’s funny how things just sort of come together one day!
I’ve been Crossfitting for two months now. I started out coming to classes, reading the WOD on the board and thinking “There is NO WAY I can do that.” But I’ve gradually changed my attitude. Now I think to myself “Yeah, I can do that!.” And somehow I do! (Perhaps lacking in power, speed, grace, etc., but I’m working on it!)
All this to say…thanks to everyone at CFSV for helping me with my attitude adjustment 🙂
muscle ups are a long way away.
WOD: 7:42, blue band, #75
Progress: achievement unlocked today is linking my first 50 air squats without needing to stop or shake it out. 🙂
MUs: Nowhere near where I need to be, but totally happy with where I am. 🙂
WOD: 9:10, 65# and blue band for the dips. My tri’s (yea, I said that) are still toast from Monday’s shenanigans.
Okay, generally it’s -2 points for saying “tris”, though if it’s your first use the penalty is waived due to my encouragement of novelty and exploration. (Don’t get me started on the penalties for “bro” or any of its derivatives.)
Sounds like great progress by everyone … and even more importantly, a lot of wonderful people supporting each other, which is what I find most heartwarming.
First. Muscle Up. Ever!!
Couldn’t replicate it for video evidence, but Lynn and Yosh are my witnesses.
WOD: 7:48 Rx. Power cleans of any kind are still my nemesis, especially after the heavy ones on Monday.
yes!!!!!! I’ve been sitting here clicking refresh just so I could vouch for you! It was magical and amazing, and I totally saw it! 🙂
I’ve been with Crossfit for only a month , but even in that time I’ve noticed myself feel stronger, healthier, and just all around better. I have a long journey ahead of me and am really excited to see what progress I’ve made this time next year. Thanks Yosh!!
Sad to miss Brian’s first muscle up! I had a feeling it would happen tonight, but I needed a rest day and there was no way in hell I wanted to do three days in a row of cleans. (yeah, yesterday wasn’t supposed to be cleans, but it ended up that way for me!)
I’ve been crossfitting for 3.5 months now. Before that, I’d never done olympic lifts, never used rings, never touched a rowing machine, and had no idea what you were supposed to do with a kettlebell. I weighed approximately 130-135#.
My first max 1 rep deadlift was 245# on 12/16. Earlier this week I did 5 reps at 255#.
On 1/25 I got my first kipping muscle up.
I still remember at first just burning out on pullups and needing assistance to get through a WOD (though I understand being able to do an unassisted pullup at all is a good starting point). Last week in tabata something else I did 56 kipping pullups.
I’m still not where I want to be, but I like the direction I’m headed. I’m definitely stronger, and I think my endurance has improved, as well. I just weighed in at 143# and know that’s all muscle gain. My new year’s resolution was to hit 145#, so I’m almost there already. I know most people struggle to keep their weight down, but I’ve always struggled to gain. I’ve tried for years, and this is the first time I’ve ever made it above 140.
Great job everyone on all the progress!
I’ve been a Crossfitter for just over 2 months now, and I can’t stop talking about it! I joined to check out what Yosh had been up to and to prepare for a Tough Mudder race, but I think I’m hooked. I can’t believe the progress I’ve already felt and seen go on around me.
I recently ran my first half marathon since starting Crossfit… I’m amazed at the difference I feel in racing now. And I can finally do a pull up on my own… even if it is just one at a time for now 🙂
Thank you Yosh and everyone at CFSV!
The Tough Mudder in Vermont in May? I’ll be there : )
