Good Eats!

Brian Hack | 03/29/2012 | 20

You guys gotta check out these spots, literally located right around the corner from CFSV! With the intensity we drive from these workouts is super important to make sure we are taking care of ourselves even when we’re not in the gym. If youre strapped for time and can’t cook that’s no excuse, sorry! If you look hard enough it’s amazing what you will find. Next time you have time check these places out!

The Independent has some of the best Paleo Cuisine I’ve had here in Boston. All the produce and meat on their menu is outsourced from local farms in Boston. Our main man, Glen, is also the bar manager there!

Looking for an awesome post-wod meal? Wanna refuel and restore muscle cells? Grab a half chicken and plantains from Macchu Picchu! $10.00 will get you a half roasted chicken with your choice of sweet potatoes, yucca or plantains.

i’m sure cambridge is filled with good eats, but it appears you really meant somerville, since both of those places are union squares finest!

wod: 9 Rx. A few rounds of HSPU were some of the worst for me ever. I failed a handful of reps and it was just all around not fun. It got better later, but I was expecting to do unbroken sets for the first few rounds!

Yosh would you ever consider doing a Paleo discussion night? Best practices, how to start out if you’re a beginner, etc.
I’d be interested to learn more about it from you/classmates vs. online articles.

    • Yosh says:

      Sure!

Would everyone be ok with me cancelling a 7pm class next week to do this?

I’ll be there for that! I started paleo in college and I’ve been on it with varying degrees of rigidity for most of the time since then.

I’ve never been to the Independent. I guess I’ll pop in after today’s WOD.

I’d be fine with that. Can you rotate the days? I have a really hard time getting there Wednesday nights.

wod: ~7, possibly 8 but I didn’t count well. I barely got any sleep last night and HSPUs were JUNK today. Along with good, clean eating it’s amazing (or maybe it’s not) how much a decent amount of rest can impact your performance.

on a more positive note: thanks for coaching us this week Mandy, it was great having you!

Hey guys. I have a friend who is available to come in Tuesday night at 7pm. Would that be ok for people?

WOD: 7 Rx, those HSPUs became difficult quick. I think I only did five in a row for the first round. My DUs also fell apart pretty quickly. I should probably spend some time drilling those down…

I also want to thank Mandy for an awesome two weeks. JT is great, but it’s always nice to mix things up.

  6. Mandy says:

GREAT JOB EVERYONE!! I cannot thank you guys enough for being so welcoming to me and I had a BLAST every morning with you guys. Hope you guys learned some new tricks as you all taught me a few things as well! I’ll see you guys SOON 🙂

    Yes!!

Not sure what my problem was today, but the HSPUs just weren’t happening by round 3, even with two abmats for a scale. Combined with a lot of failing at double unders this was a really frustrating WOD for me. After probably a dozen failed attempts finally finished the HSPU round 3 and made it through 29 double unders before time was up.

A few of us went over to Macchu Picchu for the chicken and plantains and it was awesome.

7pm on Tuesday sounds good, thanks Yosh!

I <3 rope climbs & HSPUs (thanks Brian for showing me how to kip them up at the skills night!).

I do not love the way my forearms resemble a depressed teenager after all those failed DUs, though.

WOD 6 rounds even, with 1 abmat plus a 5#plate (I wonder if I could have kipped off the ground…I intended to do them straight but my arms are toast and I just kept falling onto my face….I shall have to experiment!)

T – 21 minutes until I win the lottery and buy the box a sweet sweet hotub. 🙂

    Yosh…
Hate to jump on the bandwagon here but…

Are we going to change the name to Cambridge Crossfit next??
Cambridge does have some excellent spots but come on now, let’s give proper props here. These are in the ‘Ville not the land of fruits and nuts!!! Casa B is another great spot in Union, Highland Kitchen also has great food up on Highland ave. Don’t forget the EXCELLENT beer that Glenn is sporting over at the Independent as well!! After all life can’t be all palleo all day!!!

    • Yosh says:

Didn’t mean to offend Michael! The point of the blog was for clean eating choices so maybe I should have been specific. I am transitioning towards the season and hopefully having a paleo challenge, hence the reason for the two restaurants on the blog. With the farmers Market appracoaching it’s a great chance to learn!

NO Offense taken Yosh..just defending the honor of my hometown but mostly just playing around!!!!
Two great restaurant choices for paleo diet and any other type of food!!!
