Walk the Walk and Talk the Talk

Being a CrossFitter is not just about being able to throw big weight over your head or show off with some handstand push ups (okay, it’s pretty cool). While learning all these new movements can be foreign to us it is important to learn the meaning behind the motions we are doing. It’s like in school, how memorization may help you for the quiz but come time for the final you’re probably going to have a tough time. Learning the correct way of performing things like a clean or a snatch will help better you as an overall athlete.

When I first started CrossFit I couldn’t handle the vocabulary. I was overwhelmed so rather than try to remember which names went with which movements, I just sort of nodded along and come time for the WOD said, “which one is one where it goes up to my shoulders?” or “which one is a snatch again?” or “what’s a hang?” Learning exactly what a “Hang Power Clean” versus a “Squat Clean” will help you develop good habits and muscle memory. JT, Yosh, and myself are more than happy to answer any questions you may have or go over any tricky vocabulary. JT may even get some flashcards going in the middle of a WOD if you’re lucky!

Strength:

Power Clean 5-5-5

WOD:

3-6-9-12-9-6-3

Toes to Bar

Overhead Squats (95#/65#)

Note: Sorry the early post! Too much homework tonight didn’t want to post it too late!

now that i’m officially unlimited, i’ll be popping in over at fenway every now and again.

i was there this morning — i couldn’t remember the rep scheme for power cleans, so i went with sets of 3. 110#

      wod: 21-15-9 dumbbell thrusters/pull ups/burpees
9:10 at 20# thrusters (not Rx)

    power clean: 175#
WOD: 5:35 Rx. lost the rhythm on toes to bar on the set of 12 and couldn’t quite get it back…too many singles from there on!

PC: 135# This is the Oly movement that is still giving me the most trouble. I feel like my Snatch and Jerk have progressed pretty well, but it just seems like I continue to muscle the clean up sloppily.

WOD: 9:56 Rx. Toes to Bar were an absolute mess starting somewhere in the first round of 9. Just got worse from there.

    Power Clean: 135#

WOD- 7:36. Thanks to JT and Marcos for pushing it at 530am. TTB were more difficult than I thought, but I like that it helps strengthen my grip too.

You people think Mandy is kidding about the flash cards. When that happens, shit gets *real* in a hurry.

real nerve wracking. i have scarred memories of the math flashcard invasion. i’ve never been good at being put on the spot to answer questions…especially ones related to doing math in my head.
