Regionals this weekend!
CrossFit has a wonderful community component. A fantastic, supportive environment where people cheer each other on and the last place finisher gets applause too. That’s something that’s missing in our everyday lives and so we yearn for it, and we cling to it in CrossFit.
And sometimes we almost suffocate ourselves with that air. We forget that CrossFit has an overriding edge, a toughness, a “holy-shit-I’m-not-sure-I-can-do-this” soul.
See, CrossFit is not all hugs and kumbaya. It’s not all high fives and feel-good videos.
CrossFit is hard. CrossFit is painful. CrossFit — true CrossFit — is not something that any normal, well-balanced person would run towards.
“Pain? Yeah!” “Feeling like I’m going to throw up? Awesome!” “Torture myself for 20 minutes? Whoot! I’ve been wanting to do that ALL DAY LONG.”
If you met people who said those things on the street, you’d run. Or you should. Or else you’re just as fucked-up as the pain lovers.
And maybe we are fucked-up — I’m not discounting that possibility. But what I’m pretty darn sure of is that most of us go into that pain because we want, we need, we crave the results of that pain. We crave the physical effects and the emotional stability that results from CrossFit.
But don’t mistake that it’s all hugs and high fives. This is some crazy shit we put ourselves through. Some hard pain, some dark times. But the light at the end is amazing …
Volume Training
Pull Ups: 10 minutes
WOD
Row 500, 400, 300, 200, 100meters
12 deadlifts (225/185)
6 burpees over bar
Ring Dips 10, 8, 6 ,4 ,2
REMINDER: Saturday the 26th I have reserved some space at the Independent for Copley’ going away party. We have an area by the Bar reserved from 6pm-8pm. If we’re all having fun, which with our crew I find it difficult to believe we won’t be, than we can probably have it a little longer. I figured it’d be easiest not to reserve food or drink since everyone will probably  want their own thing. Please RSVP  by emailing me so I can give them a general headcount. Please RSVP no later than Wednesday.
Schedule Announcement: There will be no class this Friday and Saturday in observance of the Northeast Regionals! Purchase your tickets here and come cheer on our friends at CrossFit Fenway!
i wish i could just block out this wod. 24:42 with 135# and ugly dips. i thought i had 145# on there, but my math skills are sub par. woof. definitely time for an off day.
on a more fun note! i will be driving to regionals tomorrow from somerville. brian has already claimed a spot in my car, but i have room for 3 more. first come, first serve, and we’ll be leaving from the teele square area (although i can adjust if i have to).

18:44 rx.
I’ll also be driving to regionals on Saturday from Cambridge, and have a couple open seats if anyone needs a ride. I check the blog at least as much as Cal, and can be reached at bensacc@gmail.com
Pull-ups: 5-5-5-5-5-5-3-3-3-3
WOD: 21:43 @205#. Should have just done Rx but too late now.
I’ll be going to regionals Saturday and maybe Sunday. All set for transportation though.
Btw the new CFSV shirts are… boss.
Pull-ups: did 4 on the minute. Do they have to be unbroken to count? If so, I got 4 the first 8 minutes, i think, then 3, then 2. I would have just hung onto the bar if I knew they had to be unbroken.
WOD: something like 24 minutes at 165# with red band on the dips. In hindsight might have been able to do dips without the band, but glad I kept the deadlifts light. got the first round of deadlifts unbroken, but it went downhill from there.
Today was my first dude:30. I much prefer it to alone:30. 🙂 (Dawn – I missed you! I thought you were kidding…)
It was also unexpectedly just perfect (minus the part where I had to gtfo to make it to work on time!). <3
2 deadhangs each minute (although the last couple minutes didn't have as much integrity as I would have preferred, I would still count them)
WOD – 22:21 with only 85# on the DLs and red bands for the dips. I'm still figuring out how to DL without hurting myself, but I think today I might have finally figured it out.
Anyway – I actually felt like I scaled this one perfectly. And it really set the tone for my day – I've been killin' it ever since. 🙂
most intense WOD of memory!
pullups – green+red. goal was 6 per minute. would like to work in the direction of less bands, cleaner reps.
WOD: 20:11. 95#, blue on rings. one fateful day i will love burpees. my arms feel great (i say this now – let’s see about tomorrow morning!)
have a great holiday weekend, all.
Yes, so sorry to miss that 6:30 pain-fest! Thought I was going to be okay after a sleepless night, but then I thought I might just die if I kept at it. I think before 9 is never a good time for workouts for me! Hope the concert was great, and have fun at the games and the Independent!!
Volume training – 8 kipping all 10 (11) minutes. Tried to keep the keep as tight as I could.
WOD – 14:14 Rx. Deadlifts and Ring Dips were unbroken. This WOD felt great! Rowing turned into the rest period and I feel like I paced it well and was able to build intensity throughout the WOD.
Hope to see you all Saturday!
Nick, you’re a god damn beast!
14:14…dude, that’s sick!
19:48–85# and blue band for ring dip.
Thank you Cal for your advice about the deadlift–my shins are a hot mess today, will definitely practice what you showed me!
21:15 @ 115# with a blue band for ring dips
