Wah. Thought I would be feeling victorious after this workout, as I expected to PR on the deadlift (and I did so at 163#, though that was just 1 rep). BUT my form is not good, and my lower back KILLS now! This and the fact that I don’t like to disappoint Mandy with my wimpy WOD scaling choices (the wimpy choices I had to make midway through anyway) made the WOD kind of a mess. The worst wall balls ever, probably. But, at least I didn’t sleep in, right? And I like our 5:30 crew – if I have to be miserable, good to have Marcos, Asad, and Mandy along for the ride.

DL: 175#. meh. I almost didn’t get it off the ground and struggled with it a few more times. on the plus side, my form may have been pretty ok, which is good.

    wod: 13:34 Rx. unbroken wallball!

  3. Mandy says:

Meh? Wah? I’m sorry let’s have some positivity for a new deadlift PR and unbroken wall balls. Strong chicks rule! You guys are awesome.

    • Cal says:

hahaha i added an exclamation point next to unbroken wallball to show how positive i feel! i’m going to steal your deadlifting ability while you sleep.

    • Hillary says:

it is true, we do rule. 🙂 But I need to get better at scraping my shins with that damn bar.

Every morning I make it to Crossfit is a small miracle and I always leave with a smile.

    DL: 125# (PR by 40#!!)
    WOD: 13:10

    Deadlift: 315# for 3 (I think a PR), 335# for 1 (definitely a PR)
WOD: 9:53 Rx. Clean and Jerk really slowed this thing down after the first round.

An update on my May Goals (since May is now over):
Goal: Sub 7:00 2K Row. Result: 7:04.1 when we did them on May 1, haven’t attempted to test again since.
Goal: 2X Bodyweight Deadlift. Result: 335# for 1 rep today should be 2x bodyweight (I haven’t really weighed myself lately, but I think I’m somewhere between 165 and 170#).
Goal: Bodyweight C&J (165#). Result: I have independently Cleaned and Jerked 175#, but never strung them together. This is almost a pass.
Goal: 10 full depth consecutive Hand Stand Pushups. Result: Not there yet, but I have been putting in a bit of practice before each class. Strength isn’t quite there yet to do these without kipping.
Goal: 100 Unbroken Double Unders. Result: I did 112 consecutive before class tonight!!!
Goal: 10 Butterfly Pullups strung together. Result: I don’t think I’ve done 10 in a row, but I have been practicing and using them in WODs lately, usually can get 5-6 in a row before they fall apart.

Anyone else out there make headway on their May goals? Time to start thinking about June goals!!!

    • Lynn says:

      You are awesome!!!

      155# DL (not a PR)
17:03 WOD with red band pullups (omg – way harder than kipping! can’t wait until my hands are done being shredded so pullups can be fun again!), only 75# C&J, and the 20# ball to the blue smoke under the right speaker. I got a good laugh when I was wallballing the first round and Nick came around and both started and finished his 2nd round of WBs while I was still working on the first set. (thanks again for letting me start & finish my 4th round after everyone else was done, JT!)

I didn’t really designate any of my goals as May…rather they were just on the board from the 2012 list. But I did realize that I can do T2B, and there was that one night that I did 20 linked DUs. Those were both crossed off during May.

I’ve been saying for a few months now that I’d have muscle-ups (or, at least 1!) by the end of June. Well, June is here and I am less close than anticipated. I have some serious work to do. I want this the most. I dream of it.

I’m also aiming for a BW OHS this month – which I was either 10 or 20# away from before I mis-snatched a while back. I don’t think the squat will be as much trouble as getting the weight overhead.

I want a full depth HSPU without kipping. I don’t think this will happen in June. I also want to be able to clean without having to separate the DL from the clean. And I’d like to conquer my fear of snatching. These are ongoing.

Moving the 20# ball was not on my list of goals – but I did that tonight (not as much integrity as I would have liked – but it was way beyond my typical capacity, and I’m happy to start exactly where I am). 🙂 I think it’s pretty sweet that when I started in Nov I was tossing the green ball (whatever the lightest weight is) to the blue-smoke-swirl that I hit with the big-boy-ball tonight. Sometimes, my most favorite PRs are the ones I didn’t expect. 🙂

DL: 345# I got 2 at 365#, but then lost my grip. I really have to do something about that.

WOD: 12:52, I think. #115 for the C&Js. I started the PUs with a red band, but after the first round, JT added another red. the pull-ups are definitely getting easier, but I’m clearly having trouble getting the scaling right.

    • Lynn says:

I bet you can start doing the cindy-warmups with just the red band and that you’ll be able to get through all 3 rounds!

10 is a big number (I had to use a band last night because I couldn’t kip and 10 was tough for me, too). It’s totally awesome that you made that jump and succeeded – even for just one round! 🙂

      • amos says:

Thanks, Lynn. It was definitely better than I thought it’d be. But your comment reminds me that I need to learn how to kip one of these days.

  8. Mandy says:

Come visit the CrossFit Somerville tent today at the Somerville street fair! We’ve got kettlebells and are sitting right in front of 154 Broadway!

  9. Alicia says:

    DL – 175#
    WOD – 11:34 @ 65#, red & blue bands + 14# ball

Time to think about June goals…
