Inspiration
Here’s the thing that makes life so interesting.
The theory of evolution claims that “only the strong shall survive”.
Maybe so… maybe so …
But the theory of competition says, “just because they’re the strong doesn’t mean they can’t get their kicked”.
That’s right. See, what every long shot, come from behind, underdog will tell ya is this:
the other guy may in fact be the favorite, the odds may be stacked against you. Fair enough.
But what the odds don’t know is, this isn’t a math test.
This is a completely different kind of test.
One where passion, has a funny way of trumping logic.
So before you step up to the starting line, before the whistle blows, and the clocks start ticking just remember: out here the results don’t always add up.
No matter what the stats may say and the experts may think and the commentators may have predicted, when the race is on, ALL BETS ARE OFF.
Don’t be surprised be if someone decides to flip the script and take a pass on yelling “Uncle”.
And then suddenly as the old saying goes …
“WE’VE GOT OURSELVES A GAME”.

Maybe a little bit of a downer but recently I’ve been getting inspiration from the daughter of a girl I grew up with – she was born at 24 weeks and is literally in the fight of her life. This little baby who is just 2 weeks old and weighs less than 2lbs is going against the odds and kicking ass – not every day is a good one but she’s still here! And her parents are pretty amazing too – I can’t even imagine the fear and heartache they’re going through but their outlook is awe inspiring. So yeah if Lily and her parents can get through each day, even each hour, of this journey than I can certainly make it through a workout.
That is certainly a great motivation to have from a family who handles a situation like that with such grace. Thoughts go out to them!
Thanks for sharing this Alicia – Lily sounds like a fighter!
P.S. If you’re inclined to pray or send good thoughts out into the universe they can certainly use them
press: 70#, which I’m pretty sure I can do more than once, but can’t get 75# at all. 1# plates? please?
wod: 5:58 Rx (55#). those front squats were actually more challenging than i was expecting! i liked this one though.
damn, that’s fast! well done…
my rx was limited by what i can get over my head. if your press wasn’t so huge, you’d have lighter weight for the wod!
Good idea, Cal – I’ll order some small plates. In the meantime, I suggest wrapping a pair of these on each end of the bar:

(I hear they’re good for “toning”.)
All joking aside, if anyone has any useless old mainstream-fitness equipment like this laying embarrassingly in the base of your closet, we may start an anonymous drop-off for it and eventually donate the old stuff to a nursing home.
press: 150#
wod: 7:42 rx (120#)
press 55#
wod- 7:00 with 45#… this whole thing was hard but the situps are what really slowed me down!
I get some of my inspiration from my fellow CFSV’ers. You people are tough as nails, and completely awesome.
woo! fun times this morning.
press: 75# (maiden voyage on this movement!)
wod: 7:13 at 65# rx.
inspiration are all the unsung heroes of history.
oops, i meant 80#. and fellow crossfitters = tough as nails = truth.
Press: 120# PR
WOD: 8:07 at 95# (close enough to Rx since we don’t have 1/2 lbs weights)
Good work, 6pm.
And I agree with Lara: my inspiration comes in large part from other Crossfitters. I want more of that awesome.
Press – 85#, pr
WOD – 9:00 @ 65#
Need to work on my front squat – I don’t like them!
Press: 145#
WOD: 8:28 Rx (115#) , front squats really slowed me down at the end.
