Congrats, Mudders!
This past weekend, Erin M., Mike K., Niki B., Maggie S., and Kait M., took part in the Tough Mudder. So far all I’ve heard are good things from these merry band of ninjas, but can’t wait to hear more stories! I received the following from Mad Mike Kivikoski about his adventure. Feel free guys to send pictures and testimonials! And congratulations Mike on toasting your old score!
“Hey Yosh & JT,
I wanted to say thanks for being great trainers, and as Yosh has said, “The Proof is in the Pudding”.
This past weekend I did my third Tough Mudder, beating my May Tough Mudder time by almost 75 minutes (May was 5:05ish, July was 3:52ish) on roughly the same course (a few of the weaker obstacles were replaced with tougher ones, and they rearranged some of the obstacle order). Although there are factors that helped the time, such as less mud running downhill then May because of the lack of rain and water obstacles weren’t as cold (or didn’t feel as cold), I attribute a lot of that time difference to the past two months spent at Crossfit (and changing my diet to eating Paleo 80/20 for the past 6 weeks). This time includes helping 3 to 10 mudders over the larger obstacles (Berlin Walls, Everest, Spider Web and others), having twice as many water stations/breaks as in May and an enormous amount of high fives to fellow mudders.
Strength improvements were obvious in this Mudder, some of which included:
- being able to carry my log in Hold Your Wood up the mountain without stopping.
- making it 12 bars (out of 20) on the monkey bars (compared to 3 in May).
- climbing over the 8 foot walls without any assistance (I needed 10 fingers help to get over the *6* ft walls in May).
- high stepping it uphill through ~70 tires stuck in mud without falling or resting.
Having the attitude of ‘one more rep’ and ‘I can rest when I’m done’ really pushed me through this Tough Mudder at the fastest pace ever, and that attitude comes to me directly from Crossfit and the WODs.
I just wanted to say thanks again for pushing me through the workouts, and I’m really pumped to be seeing the Proof Pudding.
High Fives!”

Congrats, mudders! That sounds pretty bad ass — way to go!
I did OHS yesterday, so I front squatted today: 125#, not a PR, failed at 1×130#. 130# is my arch nemesis.
WOD: 6:14 Rx. I planned on going unbroken, but I no repped at 16 in the first set more than once and then I lost my kip in T2B a few times. I liked this though, I’m looking forward to seeing it again sometime!
that photo was enough to put the terror of hell through me. plunging into cold mud! that PLUS all the rest. amazing attitude and performance, everyone!
OH squats are feeling less like i’m trying to talk to each of my body parts individually. 65# with form that’s not embarrassing.
this WOD was crazy but quick. had to cheat (ha) with burpees (shoulders were so tired from OH that i could barely hold onto the bar). 6:19: 14#, dirty burpees.
drink up – today is a scorcher. happy birthday mandy!
p.s. we were chatting about parkour. has anyone experimented with this?
If anyone else cares to gawk at photos of Mike & I being shocked, bruised and beaten in the mud – have at it!

KILLER PANTS. Those are awesome.
ditto that – i want them. no, really… i love rainbows
Niki these are great, can i use them for the blog???
Go for it!
Use this one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nebrow/7582873998/in/set-72157630603737560/ …fave.
OHS: 75# PR. This is huge for me: after 6 months, I finally feel like I’ve broken through the wall on this lift. This is 25# more than my previous PR, and the lift felt a lot better than it ever had.
WOD: 6:05 @ 16# med ball
Congrats Kyle! Excellent work with those OHS last night.
Thanks! Great work on that WOD last night: I am having a hard time even imagining doing that workout with a 30# med ball.
OHS: 55#, I still don’t like these but I feel like they’re getting more stable every time I do them.
WOD: 3:47, 14# ball & sit-ups. I don’t think I’ve done wall balls in a while, but these felt pretty good!
Awesome job Dynamo!
OHS: 125# Didn’t really feel stable in the shoulders until the 3rd set of these.
WOD: 9:17 Rx+ (30# Medball)
I don’t usually cherry pick workouts, but I specifically switched myself into this workout to take on TTB. Last time they came up in a WOD they absolutely destroyed me, and I vowed to work on them and own them the next time they showed up. I’ve been practicing a lot lately, but I still need more work. My kip was solid until about halfway through the round of 15, at which point I also started to tear through all of the large callouses on my hands. Oh, and Yosh made me use the 30# medball for the wall balls. So…fck.
Great job Brian!
Ditto!
