Sometimes it’s good to go outside the Box

Brian Hack | 08/20/2012 | 18

For some people, CrossFit is their only sport.

While there is no problem in this at all, I’ve always supported the urge to try new things. We use CrossFit to get fit. The more and more we utilize it’s methodology, the more we can test ourselves and our adaptability towards other things. This past weekend, Brian Hack completed a Half-Ironman Triathlon. This is by far one of the most legit tests of Fitness out there. In case you’re wondering what this entails, here are the distances Brian had to cover:

1.2 Mile Swim

56 Mile Bike

13.1 Mile Run

Triathlons are the truest test of high performance endurance. Brians finishing time was 5 hours and 50 minutes. Way to go Brian, you are an awesome dude and have the true heart of an athlete!

Strength

Front Squat

3-3-3-3-3

WOD

5 Rounds

5 Deadlifts (225#/135#)

10 Burpees

Wounded Warrior Project

On September 22, 2012, the Boston Soldier Ride will take place to help benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. Soldier Ride is a unique four-day cycling opportunity for Wounded Warriors to use cycling and the bonds of service to overcome physical, mental, or emotional wounds. The rides are exhilarating and a great way to help warriors gain confidence and realize you can do this!

Volunteers are needed, and our own Jaime Bailey as well as Alicia Dunn, are participating at a few of the water stops along the course.

To learn more about Soldier Ride, you can visit: http://www.soldierride.org

If you want to volunteer, you’ll need to sign up with the Boston Warrior outpost here: https://mycarecrew.lotsahelpinghands.com/c/658503/login/?logout&language=en

Congrats Brian! Great time, way to represent!

RE: group picture, Nick, what happened to your shirt?

    • Listen… we were multitasking. In between the 30 seconds at a time we were able to cheer for Brian we were at the beach… I know, any excuse, right? I sweat like a stuck pig walking to the box…

      • *just walking to the box. Reading that, it seemed like I was saying stuck pigs sweat a lot when they walk to the box. This just sounds weird. I’m going to shut up now.

  7. FS – 245#, failed on rep 2 @ 250#. Did something very similar last time, but I climbed up faster today and sat at higher weights longer, so it still feels like progress.

WOD – 3:58 Rx+ (@275#). Does that meet Mandy approval?

More importantly, it was such a great privilege to get to watch Brian compete in such a mentally and physically grueling event. Seeing him go through something like that with such mettle and come out on the other side smiling and in good spirits was truly awesome to behold. I am proud and honored to be your friend.

    Congrats Brian, that is amazing.

Nick, you set a pretty high bar for that WOD. I’d definitely want to try this one out if I wasn’t recovering from a cold. Hopefully I can get back into it tomorrow.

Thanks to all of the helpful tips/homework from Nick, JT & Yosh my squats are getting better…slowly but surely.
