Retest: 1 Mile Run

jm_crossfit_20130710_7819So here we are, at the end of another programming cycle.  No matter your feelings towards running, there’s something eloquent and beautiful about today’s WOD.  Nothing fancy – no bars, no extra weights, no fancy exercise tools.  Just one simple task.

Get yourself from point A to point B as fast as you can using your own two legs.

We’ve been training for this.  You are prepared.  Now go out and get after it.

WOD:

1 mile run

    what up 6:30!!!!!

    running in da rain

    8:43 (splits 2:03 / 2:14 / 2:16 / 2:10) –> gonna work on shaving the secs closer and closer to 2min splits

7:15, though I didn’t do the benchmark at the beginning of the cycle.

Paced myself a little because the all-out sprinting from the 800/400/200 left the tank empty after about 400m. Could have probably paced myself a little faster and been ok. Welcome and good job newbies!

KP!! My second attempt at a morning class was a fail, completely slept right through. So sorry, 6:30am I’m sure u kicked butt!!

    8:20 – (1:48, 2:10, 2:10, 2:12) compare to
    8:33 – (1:58, 2:15, 2:13, 2:07)
so… that final lap completely confuses me. I don’t see how it could be my slowest? Finishing strong is usually something I can do. In 2007, I did a track meet and got 7:18 in the mile. Much about me has changed since that time (50 pounds for starters, 10 on me, 40 in kindergarten), but I still think that is within reach again someday.
For the record, I really liked having a benchmark WOD to kick off the cycle – hope we can do that again!

    WOD: 11:17

At least one minute was shaved because I didn’t stop for much needed encouragement from Nick at lap 3 back in July. This time, the calves tightened up lap 4 but kept pushing esp with boost from KP at last stretch.

5:30 was flying, nice job athletes!

UM – that’s UNDER 13! You’re amazing, lady. And at 5:30 in the freaking morning after donuts and alcohol.

      I’m beyond impressed with you..

I love this test/re-test stuff with the training blocks. But it’d be really helpful for us part-timers to know ahead of time when they’re happening, so that we can plan accordingly. Now I’ll never know if all that training improved my mile time!

    9:40 w/45# sandbag. fun.

9:42, down from 10:36 seven weeks ago. I was hoping for sub-10, so I’m pretty effing happy with that.

I’m really liking these skill-cycles too. The retest days are fun…I don’t so much see them as pressure – just a day to show off our new skillz after several weeks of hard work.

I am so utterly impressed by everyone’s accomplishments. Nice going, people! Now have a fantastic weekend.

6:45 – up 23 seconds from last time at 6:22

    Blame it on the gluten?

No one can take my 6:22 PR away from me.

I missed the re-test, but fortunately, I was doing Reach the Beach:NH this past weekend so I had a number of opportunities to see how the last seven weeks at CFSV have helped my mile time. I’m pretty pleased with my progress:

    test mile: 8:36.
first mile of my first leg of RTB: 8:19.
(I should note I maintained a steady clip for the rest of my mileage (16.8 miles broken up into three separate legs) for the rest of the race – averaged around 9:15, which includes a number of brutal NH hills).

    Definite improvement!

I’m sad I had to miss this re-test. Will there be another opportunity to re-test in future months?
