The famous Curtis P

Combining different functional movements is a fundamental element of CrossFit.  Most times this is applied to a metcon where the combination of movements allows us to push hard metabolically when one muscle group or movement pattern tires, allowing us to reach higher levels of intensity than we would be able to with a monostructual (or single movement) workout.  And sometimes the combination is put in place to make one movement harder because of the fatigue caused by another.  Such is the case in today’s strength complex, the Curtis P.  Our legs have to do a lot of work in the early part of this complex, so by the time we get to teh push press we have to be very crisp with our technique, otherwise the bar will not be going overhead.  In fact, the more efficient we are will all parts of the complex, the better chance we have of finishing it.  So saddle up, get tall and braced and let’s throw around some weight!

STR:

Curtis P

(power clean, one lunge on each leg, push press)

find a heavy single for this complex

WOD:

5 rounds
10 pullups
10 shoulder to overhead (115/85)
10 pistols

Curtis P: 75# – which, given that I usually struggle to do a lunge, let alone a weighted one, felt like Victory.

WOD: 11:08 with Green & Blue bands, 55# S2OH, and bench pistols.
Thanks for the supportive coaching from JT and strong work from Lindsey!

    These were fun.

WOD: 13:11 with stupid pistols on 5# plate, otherwise RX

first off, some google-stalking intel on the origin of “curtis p”. there’s always a story!

I think this originally came from Rob Shaul at mtnathlete.com. He named it after a trainee named “Curtis P”, who kept yelling “I love this f***ing exercise” as he worked his way to 100.

curtis P: 120#. (and yay, that also counts as a 1RM clean PR!)

WOD: 11:43 @ blue band, 85# bar, pistols w 2.5lb plate. quads are, you might say, feeling trigger-happily sore.

    Curtis P: 195, 205(f)

WOD: 11:03 “RX” I used a 5 lbs plate. JT or “Hot Dad” as he is known as in some circles said if I used oly shoes it would of been Rx. So I’ll take it.
