So Many Ways

One of my favorite warm up games / movement explorations is Getting Up. Start with laying down (of course), and then just get up. Get to standing. I bet we can all find a lot of ways to do that using both feet and both hands. Then… try it with both feet and just one hand. Or with just one foot and one hand. Or with just two feet. Or even just one foot.

There are so many ways to do just about anything. Take today’s L-Sits. The L-Sit is always foundationally the same – try to make a right angle at the hip by lifting your feet at the end of outstretched legs. But what about the rest of it? You can do L-Sits by pressing yourself off the floor with your hands. You can do them with your hands on boxes, or in rings. But you can also do L-Sits supporting your body from the other direction entirely: hanging from a bar. Or rings. Or in a flexed-arm hang. Or while you’re doing strict pullups, even.

For today’s L-Sits, they all count and it will be a nice change from the Handstand Hold regardless. Maybe that’s just feeling pushing through the shoulders two ways, or maybe it’s mixing the push of the handstand hold with the pull-down feeling of an active shoulder while hanging from the rig. For my money, I’d recommend the latter – it will be nice to have the extra shoulder warmup time before the 10 Bar Muscle Ups in this WOD.
