Get Judgy

No, not that kind of judgy. But with the CrossFit Open coming up in just a few weeks, it’s a good time to practice not just *performing* to movement standards, but *seeing and judging* those movement standards.

Today we’ll spend some of our time learning the movement standards for today’s WOD and then practicing seeing and scoring reps vs no-reps. Then for the workout itself, we’ll be splitting each class in half and running two heats. That way, you’ll each get the experience of doing the WOD and judging the WOD.

Also, this is a good reminder that you can sign up for the CF Open season either at open.crossfit.com, or at our choice this year for a non-CF partner: OUT IN THE OPEN. Out in the Open is the global LGBTQ+ inclusive worldwide scoreboard for CF Open workouts, and the registration fee there goes to support the OUT Foundation.

The OUT Foundation’s mission is to remove the barriers that block LGBTQ+ individuals’ from access and participation in fitness, health, and wellness, ensuring their success. They are dedicated to nurturing, empowering, and celebrating LGBTQ+ bodies and minds, guaranteeing our community thrives.

Now that’s exactly the kind of mission that is suitable for CrossFit Somerville – as, along with CrossFit Fenway (JT’s other gym) those were the first two trans-inclusive fitness facilities in Massachusetts, at a time when we didn’t have public accommodations protections for trans people… back in 2009 and 2011 respectively. Those protections finally passed into law in 2016 (and were defended at the ballot in 2018 from an effort to remove them), but trans rights and LGBTQ+ access everywhere continue to be under assault. I’m really excited to be sending some support to the OUT Foundation this year to help push in the other direction. If you want to upload your scores and support a good cause, this seems like a good way to go.
